Rules and Regulations
1. Students should arrive on time for classes and remain for the duration of the teaching session. Late arrival at, and early departure from, teaching sessions is disruptive, discourteous, unprofessional and unfair to other class members and tutors.
The attendance rate calculation shall only be based on the record of teacher’s attendance sheet. In case of any dispute pertaining to attendance record accuracy, the teacher’s attendance sheet will be considered as the most accurate.
Unsatisfactory attendance includes failure to attend regularly learning and teaching sessions without providing a satisfactory reason to School for absence and/or persistent late arrival at, or early departure from, learning and teaching sessions. The school will record as one occurrence of absent without official leave for every five occurrences of non-punctuality for classes and/or leaving classes prematurely before they officially end.
2. In line with the ICA’s requirements, international students must achieve a monthly minimum attendance of 90%. The school will inform the ICA when the international students whose percentage of attendance is 90% or lower in any month of the course without any valid reason. Besides this, the school will also inform the ICA if the international students have failed to attend classes for a continuous period of 7 days or more without any valid reason.
3. International students whose absenteeism rates exceed 10% or who is absent from the course for 7 consecutive working days without a valid reason and approval given by the school shall be and liable for dismissal by the school and have their student pass cancelled. Appeal allowed only on a case-by-case basis with adequate documentation as proof of absence. Under such circumstances, all fees paid shall be forfeited.
A letter of warning will be issued to students who have failed to attend lessons without any valid reason for 2 working days or the attendance rate is 90% and below.
4. Local students must achieve a monthly minimum attendance of 75%. Local students whose absenteeism rates exceed 25% shall be barred from taking the final examination of the course and cannot be awarded the certificate. Appeal allowed only on a case-by-case basis with adequate documentation as proof of absence. Under such circumstances, all fees paid shall be forfeited.
5. When a student is absent from class due to medical reasons, he/she is required to submit the original
copy of the medical certificate and complete the Leave Application Form. Only medical certificates issued by
registered clinics, polyclinics or hospitals will be accepted by the school. The medical certificates issued by
Traditional Chinese Medicine will not be accepted by the school.
6. Leave Application Form together with the medical certificate must be submitted to the Student Services Department as soon as practicable, i.e. when the medical certificated validity lapses, failing which it may not be accepted for processing. If the affected student is not able to submit the Leave of Application Form on time to the school, he/she must call the Student Services Department to inform/update the school of his/her medical condition.
7. Students are not allowed to take home leave during an on-going semester. However, official home leave may be granted on compassionate grounds, such as death of immediate relatives. Students must apply and obtain approval from the Student Services Department before going on home leave. Students are advised NOT to purchase the return air ticket before the home leave is approved as the school is NOT liable for any loss incurred if the application for home leave is not granted.
8. For appointments with the ICA, Embassy, external examination (AEIS, PACT, QT and GCE ‘O’ Level Examination), Police Station or other state agencies, official documentation must be presented to the school.
Students who fail to inform and obtain approval from the Student Services Department will be construed as absent without official leave. They will be treated as voluntarily withdrawn from the school if they are absent for more than 7 consecutive days and their Student Pass will be cancelled. Under such circumstances, the student’s refund request is subject to Refund Policy.
9. Students who have changed their correspondence address, contact phone number or email address should inform the Department of Student Support and Services promptly. If there have been changes in the contact details of parents or guardians, students ought to notify the school as early as possible so that the relevant data can be updated.
10. Students may read reference books, newspapers and articles in the school library so as to acquire information and news. Students may also utilize the school computers and internet services for learning and conducting online research.
11. The school observes the Singapore national holidays. Apart form these national holidays, students will be given term breaks/vacation breaks according to their course of study.
12. Students must comply with all the rules and regulations concerning library and computer room usage (refer to the relevant pages for details). Students are not allowed to make loud noise, eat or drink in the library and the computer room. It is not permitted to install any software into the school computers or engage in any activities which are unrelated to learning.
The school is located next to the Singapore National Library. Non-Singapore citizens may apply for its membership. The National Library provides its users with an enormous source of knowledge, including numerous books, journals, magazines, audio-visual materials and other forms of information. If the resolution to complaints adopted by the school is not up to students’ satisfaction, they may bring the issue up to the attention of the Consumer Association of Singapore (CASE) which focuses on the protection of consumer till the end of June 2010. The plaintiff and the school will settle the financial disputes in accordance with the policies stipulated by the association.
14. Throughout their studies at Hanbridge School, students must adhere to:
1) the law of Singapore
2) the rules and regulations laid down by the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority
3) all the school rules and regulations
Failure to comply will lead to punishments and/or disciplinary actions.
15. All students must accept individual and collective responsibility for maintaining a conducive learning environment while observing proper conduct at all times within the premise of the school.
The followings are rules and regulations to be observed failing which may give rise to dismissal from the school:
• Students must not be involved in any criminal offences in Singapore.
• Students must not steal, fight, smoke, drink, gamble or consume any form of controlled drugs.
• International students must adhere to all ICA’s requirements
• International students must not indulge in any activities which are inconsistent with the purpose of the student visa.
• International students must not engage in any form of employment paid or unpaid.
• All international students shall surrender the Student Pass for cancellation within 3 days of the date of cessation or termination of studies.
• All international students shall not remain in Singapore without a valid pass after the expiry of the Student Pass.
• International students and local students must have an attendance of NOT less than 90% and 75% respectively.
• Students must not be absent from the course for 7 consecutive days without a valid reason and approval given by the school. A letter of warning will be issued to students and parents/guardian who have failed to attend lessons without any valid reason for 2 cumulative days.
• Students are not allowed to transfer to any course without permission from the school and without a valid Student Pass stating the new course.
• Students must not willfully damage the school property.

16. All students must observe proper conduct and refrain from disruptive behavior at all times. The following is the conduct to be expected for maintaining good behavior:
• Students must be properly attired when they attend classes in the school.
• Students must respect their school teachers and schoolmates.
• Students must not cause or instigate other students to cause disruption to the smooth running of the class.
• Students must not eat, drink or sleep in class.
• Students must not smoke in the school premise.
• Students must not use the mobile phones during lessons.
• Students must not leave the class indiscriminately during lessons to answer or make phone calls.
• Students must adhere to the lesson schedule and be punctual for their classes. Five times accumulated late will be recorded as one time absence.
• Students shall hand in all school assessments and projects punctually.
• Students shall sit for all school examinations.
• Students must not engage in unruly behavior, bullying and use of vulgarities.
• Students must not vandalize the school property or cause damage to school equipment. If this happens, students are required to pay the school for the damage caused.
• Students must not download illegal software or visit pornographic websites.

RULES AND REGULATIONS ON THE USE OF COMPUTERS IN THE COMPUTER ROOM AND LIBRARY
• Users need to reserve the use of computers in advance.
• Do not save files onto or delete files from the hard disk.
• Playing computer games solely for entertainment is not allowed.
• Do not store or consume food and drinks in the computer room and library.
• Never attempt to dismantle the different parts of the hardware.
• Report any hardware fault immediately to the office.
• Always switch off the computer system after use.
• Use only the computer that is assigned to you.

Operating hours: 9:30am - 6:00pm (Monday to Friday)
Borrowing/returning books: 4:45pm - 6:15pm (Monday to Friday)
- The loan period for each library item is one week and each item can be renewed one time. The loan quota assigned to each student is 2.
- Students may read newspapers and study in the library. However, reference materials are not to be removed from the library.
- Students are expected to protect library materials from being mutilated or damaged. Defacing and damaging library materials with intent will result in penalties and warnings.
- To avoid causing annoyance to other library users, students should keep their voice down. They must not make loud noise or cause disturbance to others.
- Students should keep the library clean and tidy at all times. Hence, students must refrain from eating or drinking beverages in the library. Littering is prohibited. Students are also expected to ensure that all reading materials are not misplaced and all furnishings are kept tidy.
- When leaving the library, students should take away all their personal belongings. Unattended materials cannot be used for occupying seats.
- Students must strictly comply with all the rules and regulations stated above and are obliged to follow the instructions or orders given by the school librarians.
