The lessons are arranged to facilitate accumulative learning. After completing these three courses, students will have progressed from Basic, Elementary, Intermediate to Advanced level, and will be able to interact successfully in social settings, writing documents and letters.
The course consists of a total of 100 lessons, about 3300 Chinese characters. 15 lessons per level for Elementary and Intermediate and 20 per level for advanced. Each lesson comprises a text, which covers the main language points and new words, grammar, phonetics and numerous exercises including Chinese characters. Relevant information on Chinese culture and society is also included. Students can use them to study at their own pace, and to evaluate their progress themselves.
Basic and Elementary
is a new full-length foundation course in basic Chinese for absolute beginners, or for those who have learned a little Chinese but lack confidence to read and write it. It provides a solid introduction to the structure of the language.
Major features include:
Hanyu pinyin ------ phonetics and pronounciation of Chinese characters.
Grammar syllabus ------ introduces simple grammar.
Vocabulary syllabus ------ which focuses on key high-frequency word reading, writing plus dictionary training.
Conversation------ giving students the skills to deal with simple social settings.
Exercise ------ revision on grammar, vocabulary and functions in the text.
Pre-Intermediate and Intermediate
Follows on from Intermediate. Learners at this level require a different approach. The students begin to perceive the systems that underlie the language.
Key Feature:
In-depth treatment of grammar.
Systematic vocabulary syllabus.
Pronunciations integrated at appropriate points.
The four skills are developed in context.
Upper-Intermediate and Advanced
Follows on from Intermediate. Learners at this level require a different approach. The students begin to perceive the systems that underlie the language.
Key Feature:
In-depth treatment of grammar.
The four skills are developed systematically and integrated through related tasks.
Well-defined lexical syllabus with work on systems such as collocation, binomials, homonyms, and compounds.
